On October 12 2024, our Board member, Jonathan Agius, along with 11 other Aspirants were formally admitted into the Order of St John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller – Australasia (Priory of NSW)
The order dates as far back as the early 11th Century and is the oldest surviving International Christian Order of Chivalry.
The Order had at first been a charitable group, which cared for the Christian Pilgrims who came to visit the Holy Places. The traditional date of the inauguration of the Hospice of St John in Jerusalem was in 1048, with the Order being founded on Augustinian Rules around the year 1087 under the first Grand Prior, Brother Gerard of Amalfi.
The Knights Hospitallers have a very interesting and intriguing history, building churches, hospitals and caring for the sick, poor and those in need all around the world and this work continues today in many forms across many continents. Upholding traditional values and beliefs.
Jonathan said “It is very humbling to have been chosen to join the Order and I look forward to carrying the values of the Order through my own connections with community and charities”. Jonathan is now a Knight of Honour (Chevalier Jonathan).
